Every minute, the equivalent of one garbage truck full of plastic waste is dumped into our oceans!
Since the beginning of plastic production in the 1950s, we have produced 8,300 million tons of plastic. Only 9% of the world’s plastic has been recycled. The rest has been discarded in landfills or the environment. Every year, about 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean. This is equivalent to one garbage truck full of plastic being released into the oceans every minute. And this is going to get worse if we do not act now to close the plastic tap. By 2030, it is expected to increase to two truckloads per minute to four truckloads by 2050.
